Every couple of weeks, I get a very peculiar call or email lead. I’m talking about the people who want my firm to work for no compensation – and are even explicit about this fact.
The emails come in with words like this:
“I have an extremely limited budget…”
“I don’t have any money…”
“I have a very limited (read non-existent) budget…”
The thing is, these are not charities or non-profit organizations (even they actually pay for services).
These are not even people that have a good idea for a website that will better the world or society.
These calls are from regular businesses and business people, who honestly believe my firm would love to build them a for-profit website, GRATIS!
Incredible, right?
I can’t imagine telling a potential gardener, for example, that “I don’t have any money”, yet expect him/her to mow my lawn.
But with these people there’s not even a concept of trade involved, since they don’t offer anything.
They are like hagglers that failed Haggling 101.
Our clients get quality work and marketing that creates measurable business. They pay us money to do that.
That sounds like a fair trade, right?
